Education for a Brighter Future
ESL Program
The demand for English as a Second Language (ESL) classes in Green Bay is higher than ever, and local school districts and our partners are doing their best to keep up. But with so many new families arriving from places like Somalia, Ukraine, DRC Congo, and Afghanistan, there simply aren't enough resources to help everyone who needs it.
That's where COMSA steps in. We are a partner with local and state literacy organizations, and we've created dedicated ESL programs to ensure that every member of our community, no matter their age, has the tools they need to thrive.
For Adults: Our classes focus on practical, real-world skills. We teach the English needed for everyday life—like talking to doctors, paying bills, and communicating effectively at work.
For Young People: Our lessons are tailored to help students succeed in school. We provide the academic and social skills they need to feel confident and connect with their English-speaking peers.
COMSA's ESL programs are designed to meet the unique needs of immigrants and refugees. We’re here to help the next generation and working adults build a successful future in their new home.
After School Program
COMSA's after-school program provides a supportive and fun environment for young students. We offer tutoring in core subjects like math and science to help them excel in school and build confidence. Beyond homework help, the program also includes enriching activities that foster creativity and social skills, helping young people thrive both inside and outside the classroom. Our goal is to ensure every student feels prepared and empowered to succeed in their academic journey.
(Note: this program differs from our K-12 refugee program, which focuses on helping refugee youth catch up to their peers. Students in that program typically have been in the country for 5 years or less.)
K-12 Refugee School Impact and Youth Mentorship Program
Empowering Refugee Youth Through Education and Mentorship
Refugee youth often arrive in the U.S. facing immense educational challenges. Having spent years in refugee camps, many have had their schooling interrupted or have never had a formal education. They must then navigate a new school system and language, all while trying to keep up with their peers. Our program helps them succeed.
Our Educational Support
We work closely with local public school districts to support these students every step of the way. After school, our tutors and volunteers provide extra instruction and homework help. We make sure students don't just finish their assignments but truly understand the material. We also help parents understand and navigate the U.S. education system so they can better support their children's learning.
(Note: This program is tailored and designed for youth who’ve been in the Green Bay Area for 5 years or less. However, we do review special cases where extra help is really needed.)
Our Youth Mentorship Program
Adjusting to a new country is hard, especially as a young person. Our Youth Mentorship Program connects young refugees in the Green Bay area with a trusted mentor. Many of our mentors have similar backgrounds and a deep understanding of what it's like to be a refugee.
This program is about building a strong relationship. Mentors provide personalized support and guidance on crucial life skills. They help with everything from getting a driver's license to filling out college applications. This support helps young people build confidence, feel a sense of belonging, and unlock their full potential in their new community.
IXL Learning
COMSAUSA uses a special online learning program called IXL to help our students succeed. IXL is an amazing tool because it creates a personalized learning plan just for each student.
How It Works:
Personalized Learning: IXL figures out what a student already knows and what they need to work on. It then gives them practice questions that are just the right difficulty, so they are always learning and never feel overwhelmed.
More Than Just English: IXL helps with many subjects, including math, science, and social studies.
Multilingual Support: For our students who are still learning English, IXL is a huge help. Many of the questions and answers in math and other subjects can be translated into their native language. This means they can focus on the schoolwork itself, without language getting in the way.
Easy to Use: IXL is a fun and interactive program that makes learning feel less like a chore.
